Taking MOOCs in English: Motivations, attitudes and challenges of non-native speakers

 

 

 

Aim of the study

The goal of our study is to identify the motivations, attitudes and challenges of non-native speakers of English in Massive Open Online Courses taught in English (MOOCs).

This survey is comprised of the following parts:

- Motivations to take MOOCs taught in English
- Attitudes towards MOOCs taught in English
- Challenges of MOOCs taught in English
- Additional questions on motivations, attitudes and challenges
- English proficiency
- Prior MOOC experience
- Demographic information

Completing the survey should take approximately 15 minutes.

Risks

There are no known risks associated with the participation in this study.

Confidentiality of data

All the information will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR; https://gdpr.eu/). In order to safeguard your privacy, your personal data will be referred to by a unique participant number in our database. The same goes for your answers to the survey. Direct personal details that clearly compromise your anonymity will also be erased from the data. The collaborators of the MOOCresearch2.0 project will never share personal information with anyone. Your anonymised data will be distributed to other researchers only if the researchers agree to maintain the confidentiality of the data and if they agree to the terms specified in this form. Your data will be stored using a secure password-protected, encrypted storage service.

What are my data protection rights?

You have the right to access information held about you and to get a copy of your answers to the survey. You also have other rights including rights of correction, erasure and objection (for more details, please visit https://gdpr.eu/). Questions, comments and requests about your personal data can be sent to moocresearch2.0@listes.uclouvain.be.

Voluntary participation and right to withdraw

Your participation is voluntary, and you may withdraw from the study at any time and for any reason. If you withdraw from the study during or after answering the survey, we will delete your data and there will be no penalty. If you would like to remove your data from ou database, please contact moocresearch2.0@listes.uclouvain.be.

- We kindly request that you complete the survey from start to finish without interruption to ensure that your responses are saved and can be used by our research team.

- Your reponses from the survey will be only used for research purposes within the framework of the MOOCresearch2.0 and any future projetcs that may arise from it.
